Escape the Baby Alarm Expands Emotional Parenting Puzzles Ahead Steam Next Fest
Danish developer Julie Normann Bjørnskov has released an expanded demo of Escape the Baby Alarm on Steam ahead of Steam Next Fest, which runs from June 15 to June 22, 2026. The game presents a hand-drawn puzzle adventure that transforms the emotional intensity of early parenthood into surreal escape room challenges.
The project explores exhaustion, chaos, and small moments of victory experienced by new parents, turning them into interactive puzzles. It offers a calm and reflective experience that avoids traditional game pressures like timers or scoring systems.

Parenting As Puzzle Chaos
Escape the Baby Alarm draws its puzzles directly from everyday parenting experiences, reshaping familiar domestic moments into unusual problem-solving scenarios. Objects appear in unexpected places, and routine tasks become layered with surreal logic that reflects mental fatigue and emotional overload.
The game emphasizes authenticity by grounding its design in real-life parenting struggles. It highlights confusion, exhaustion, and emotional overwhelm while maintaining a gentle gameplay pace that allows players to progress without pressure.
Developer Julie Normann Bjørnskov explained that the project was born from her own experiences during maternity leave. She described the emotional tension between creative desire and the demands of early motherhood as the inspiration behind the game’s concept.
She said the game became a way to process that experience, turning everyday parenting challenges into something expressive and interactive. The narrative approach positions the game as both personal reflection and artistic interpretation.
Emotional Escape Design
The visual and narrative structure of Escape the Baby Alarm is influenced by magical realism, blending ordinary domestic life with subconscious imagery. This design choice allows everyday objects and tasks to shift into symbolic puzzles that reflect emotional states.
At the center of the game is a recurring question about parental adequacy, represented through a thematic encounter with an “Am I a Good Mother?” figure. This concept ties together the emotional and gameplay layers of the experience.
A new trailer showcases the emotional range of the game, from chaotic mornings to quieter reflective moments. The expanded demo is now available on Steam, offering players a deeper look at its hand-drawn environments and narrative tone.
Escape the Baby Alarm is currently in development for PC via Steam, with a mobile version also planned for release. The game continues to position itself as a reflective take on parenting through interactive storytelling and puzzle design.
