Gilas Pilipinas: Chris Ross not giving up on SEA Games stint
San Miguel Beermen guard Chris Ross remains firm on his desire to play for the Gilas Pilipinas Men national team in the upcoming 2019 SEA Games which the Philippines will be hosting.
Talking to Richard Dy of ESPN5, the two-time Defensive Player of the Year said he would be “more than happy” to join the national team pool if given a chance to join.
Per ESPN5:
“If my name is called, I’ll be more than happy to join the pool, but if not, best of luck to those guys that are (going to be) in the pool. It’s not in my control, I can only control what I can control.
I think I read (the SBP officials) have to put a pool in before the 30th of this month. I think if they do (include my name), great. If not, great. But whoever they name, then they should be in that pool. If my name is not called, that’s fine. I’ll be cheering for those guys.”
Unlike in FIBA-sanctioned tournaments where Ross is ineligible to join because of passport issues, the SEA Games is an ideal competition for him.
Recently, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas named Stanley Pringle, Christian Standhardinger, Thirdy Ravena, and Isaac Go among those included in a 24-man pool for the SEA Games, according to multiple online reports.
