Borderlands 4 introduces revamped co-op and new Vault Hunters in gameplay reveal

2K and Gearbox Software have pulled back the curtain on Borderlands® 4, showcasing adrenaline-fueled gameplay and exciting details about the franchise’s next evolution. The game is set to launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, with an additional release planned for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The gameplay reveal offers an in-depth look at two of the four new Vault Hunters—Vex the Siren and Rafa the Exo-Soldier. Vex conjures deadly shades to fight by her side, while Rafa uses a high-tech exo-suit to deploy a personalized arsenal, each bringing unique skillsets enhanced by the series’ most advanced skill tree system yet.
Set on the richly detailed world of Kairos, Borderlands 4 pits players against the Timekeeper, a mysterious tyrant who controls the planet using cybernetic implants known as Bolts. With four distinct regions to explore, players will team up with rebels, encounter new and familiar characters, and unleash chaos on The Order—his brutal synthetic army.

The gameplay highlights a mission through Terminus Range, a snowy blacksite where Vex and Rafa cut through enemies with firepower and style. The footage showcases overhauled gear mechanics, including weapons from eight returning and new manufacturers, a Licensed Parts system for hybrid weapon behavior, and a new Ordnance slot for grenade and heavy weapon usage.
Enhancement slots let players boost their firepower based on gear brands, while Rep Kits add utility by providing healing and temporary combat boosts. These upgrades fuel an even wilder loot experience, rewarding players for customizing their loadouts with precision and creativity.
Built for co-op from the ground up, Borderlands 4 debuts a new online party system that makes it easier for friends to join forces and stay connected across different game modes. Instanced loot, scalable enemy difficulty, and dynamic leveling ensure smooth and balanced multiplayer experiences for all.
Fans of the franchise can look forward to more reveals across digital platforms, behind-the-scenes content from Gearbox, and expanded footage highlighting the campaign’s world-building, characters, and explosive action.
Borderlands 4 is currently rated RP (Rating Pending) by the ESRB.
