NHMC celebrates Latin music’s impact at the 2025 GRAMMY Awards
As the 2025 GRAMMY Awards honored the year’s best in music, the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) reaffirmed the importance of recognizing diverse voices and cultures across all genres. Latin music, in particular, continued to shape the global music industry, breaking records, inspiring movements, and amplifying underrepresented communities.
Beyond the celebration of artistry, this year’s ceremony also highlighted resilience and unity, supporting those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires in the Palisades, Pasadena, and Altadena communities.
Honoring Latin Music Excellence
The NHMC extends its congratulations to the Latin music GRAMMY winners, whose contributions continue to push the boundaries of the industry:
- Shakira – Best Latin Pop Album (Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran)
- Carín León – Best Música Mexicana Album (Including Tejano) (Boca Chueca, Vol. 1)
- Residente – Best Música Urbana Album (Las Letras Ya No Importan)
- Rawayana – Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album (¿Quién Trae Las Cornetas?)
These victories reflect the growing global impact of Latin music and the importance of cultural representation on the world’s biggest stage.
Artists Advocate for Inclusivity and Social Change
Beyond the awards, this year’s GRAMMYs were marked by powerful speeches advocating for marginalized communities. Artists like Chappell Roan, Shakira, Doechii, and Lady Gaga used their platform to uplift LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and Black women, recognizing their influence in shaping the music industry and society.
The Dr. Dre Global Impact Award recipient, Alicia Keys, delivered one of the night’s most impactful moments. In her acceptance speech, she stated:
“This is not the time to shut down the diversity of voices. We’ve seen on this stage talented, hardworking people from different backgrounds with different points of view, and it changes the game. DEI is not a threat, it’s a gift.”

A Call for Year-Round Investment in Diversity
As diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts face increasing challenges, the NHMC calls for true equity—not just recognition during award season. Marginalized artists, executives, and creatives must receive consistent support and investment throughout the year.
“People of color drive the economy, and inclusive environments unlock diverse talent and creativity,” the NHMC emphasized.
As Latin music continues to break barriers, the industry must ensure that diversity is not just celebrated but embedded in the fabric of the music business.
