MPCALA Holdings Inc., the concessionaire for the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), has announced that the Governor’s Drive Interchange has reached a significant milestone, achieving 25% completion. Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025, this interchange is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion on key roads in Cavite, particularly along Aguinaldo Highway in Silang. Additionally, it is expected to enhance economic activities in nearby cities and municipalities within Cavite.

Once completed, this interchange will be the longest segment of CALAX, stretching 7.8 kilometers from the Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange to Governor’s Drive. The remaining two segments of the CALAX project are still under construction. Currently, work on the Governor’s Drive Interchange includes excavation, bridge and drainage construction, and fence installation.

Raul Ignacio, President and General Manager of MPCALA Holdings Inc., acknowledged that the company has faced challenges during construction due to recent typhoons. However, he emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting the planned completion date.

“Despite the challenges posed by recent typhoons, we are moving forward to ensure the timely delivery of the Governor’s Drive Interchange. Once operational, this crucial infrastructure will ease traffic congestion, offer a quicker route for thousands of motorists, and stimulate economic growth throughout Cavite and CALABARZON,” said Ignacio.

In addition to the Governor’s Drive Interchange, progress is also being made on the final two segments of CALAX. Subsection 2 (Open Canal Interchange) is currently 15% complete, while Subsection 1 (Kawit Interchange) is at 25% completion. Both segments are expected to be finished by the third quarter of 2025. The CALAX will eventually connect to the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) through the CAVITEX-CALAX Link. Overall, the CALAX project is now 64% complete.

Currently, approximately 45,000 motorists use CALAX daily. Once CALAX is connected to CAVITEX, it is expected to accommodate over 95,000 motorists each day, improving traffic flow and accessibility between Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila.

CALAX is a 45-kilometer, four-lane expressway featuring eight interchanges. Operational segments include Laguna Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Silang East, and Silang (Aguinaldo) Interchange. The remaining segments—Governor’s Drive, Open Canal, and Kawit Interchange—are still under construction. Upon completion, CALAX will reduce travel time from CAVITEX (Kawit) to SLEX (Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna) from two hours to just 35 minutes, greatly enhancing connectivity between the National Capital Region (NCR) and the CALABARZON region.

MPCALA Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), manages CALAX along with other key tollways in the Philippines, including the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector Road, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu.
