Meralco’s Durham looking forward again to tough battle vs Brownlee
Meralco Bolts import Allen Durham is no stranger to tough battles against Barangay Ginebra’s Justin Brownlee, and the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals showdown will be no exception as he looks forward to going up against his counterpart.
Durham will have his hands full once more against the decorated Ginebra reinforcement, when the two sides open their best-of-7 series next week.
But the Bolts veteran said he thrives in such environments, and expects nothing but the best from Brownlee once again.
“It’s going to be fun. As a competitor, you want to play against the best and he (Justin Brownlee) has shown he’s one of the best imports in the PBA year after year so definitely, it will be a battle,” said Durham, per the PBA website.
Meralco has lost its last 2 Governors’ Cup finals series against Ginebra, yielding in 6 games in 2016 and coming up short in 7 games the following year.
But changes in the scene might help the Bolts secure their 1st ever PBA franchise title.
Durham even thinks Ginebra is a better match-up for his squad compared to TNT, given that the GinKings play big, compared to the KaTropa’s space and 3-point shooting system.
“I actually think they (Ginebra) are a better match-up for us compared to TNT (in the semis), who got shooters all over, and I think we’ll be able to use (Raymond) Almazan a little bit more as they’re a bigger team,” said Durham.
