Gilas Pilipinas: Alex Compton happy for Vic Manuel’s inclusion to SEA Games pool
Former Alaska Aces head coach Alex Compton expressed pride for Vic Manuel’s inclusion to the 15-man Gilas Pilipinas pool for the Southeast Asian Games.
In a recent report by ABS-CBN News’ Camille Naredo, Compton couldn’t help but showcase how he feels for his former player, also adding that the 6-foot-6 big worked hard to become one of the premier forwards in the league.
“Oh, I’m so happy for him.
“Karangalan ‘yan eh. It’s everybody’s desire when they grow up, to play for the Philippine team.
Compton was Alaska’s head coach from 2014 to 2019. He was a personal witness to Manuel’s steady growth in the PBA, becoming an all-star level player.
Compton, who was part of the 2015-2016 Gilas Pilipinas coaching staff under Tab Baldwin, even talked about Manuel’s ability to flat out score around the paint and in the perimeter.
“He’s just like a basket waiting to happen. He steps on the floor, and you’re like, if he touches it, that thing might go in. It might just graze his hand and it’s gonna go in.”
