Terrific 12: Wells fires 42 as San Miguel enters semis, dethrones Ryukyu

The San Miguel Beermen barged into the semi-finals of the 2019 East Asia Super League Terrific 12 after dethroning defending champions Ryukyu Golden Kings of Japan, 101-92 Thursday in Macau.

Continuing their inspired play, the Beermen swept their Group B opponents to advance to the knock-out semis.

Upcoming Governors’ Cup import Dez Wells was phenomenal once again, firing 42 points on 16/29 shooting while also adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists to his stat line.

Terrence Romeo had 18 points and 4 assists, while Lester Prosper was steady with 15 points and 8 boards.

The Beermen dropped 31 1st quarter points to establish control of the match against the Japanese B.League side.

Wells put on a spectacular 4th quarter highlighted by thunderous dunks as the Beermen held a double-digit cushion for most of the game.

Demon Brooks was a one-man show for the Golden Kings with 34 points and 11 rebounds, although he had 5 turnovers.

The Beermen will face Group D winners Liaoning Flying Leopards of China who are flanked by Lance Stephenson and Salah Mejri.

Meanwhile, the Blackwater Elite and the TNT KaTropa have both been ousted from the tournament.

The Elite finished their campaign winless after a 40-point blow-out to the Chiba Jets of Japan, 109-69 yesterday.

TNT got eliminated as they lost to Liaoning in their opening game, 96-91. The KaTropa salvaged a victory by beating Niigata Albirex BB, 99-90 in Group D.
