PBA: Tim Cone expects Finals to reach Game 7, but hopes Ginebra can finish early
Barangay Ginebra head coach Tim Cone knows that the longer the PBA Governors’ Cup finals go, the harder it will be for his club.
Showing respect to the strength and competitiveness of the Meralco Bolts, the multi-titled mentor said he could only wish for a quick finish, even if realistically speaking, he expects the series to go the distance.
“If you can finish it early… we’d like to. They would like to finish it early, we would like to finish it early,” said Cone per Tiebreaker Times.
History, though, is not on Cone’s side.
Both of the series played out by Ginebra and Meralco for the last 2 of 3 Governors’ Cup championships went the distance.
Ginebra needed all 7 games in 2017 to win the crown, and the series went 6 games a year before. The latter was also just a Justin Brownlee miss from going to overtime and perhaps also a Game 7.
“I think, our feelings are it’s gonna go down to a Game Seven,” said Cone.
“That’s generally the case when you have two really good teams. We’ll throw grenades at each other back and forth for a few games and try to come down to the wire and see who wins it all.”
