A rainy drive through your hometown can feel like time travel, and Japanese rock trio karanoah has turned that feeling into a song. The band’s new single, “Aini,” is its first straight-ahead rock track in a while.

Titled “会いに” in Japanese, the song was written as the radio CM song for Osaka station FM802’s “Saturday Amusic Islands ~Soft99 Car Life With You~.” Yudai of karanoah describes a car as a kind of time machine, an idea that drives the whole track.

Japanese rock trio karanoah released “Aini,” its latest single and first straight-ahead rock track in a while, as the band prepares for its 2027 tour.

Inside karanoah’s New Rock Single

The song is built from small details: heavy rain, fogged-up car windows, a glowing vending machine and a CD played in the passenger seat of Yudai’s sister’s car. Each is ordinary on its own, but together they feel like a brief trip back in time.

It opens quietly, with space around the intro and a voice like someone telling a story. The chorus then opens up the full band, and by the end the song speeds up like a driver pressing the accelerator on a wet night road.

The opening line, a murmured suggestion to go see someone, becomes a promise by the last chorus. Who the narrator meets is never spelled out. It could be someone from his memories or the person he was that day. The run ends with the person he is now.

Yudai explained where the idea came from: “A car feels like a time machine. Of course you can’t actually go back, but it can feel like you really have.”

“Driving through your hometown, the town you lived in, a road full of memories, you remember feelings from back then that you hadn’t even remembered, the scenery, even the smell,” he said. “It feels like you can go back to that moment, just for a second.”

“I wanted to make a song that takes all of it, the emotions and the memories, and moves forward,” Yudai said. That goal shapes the track from its quiet opening to its promise-like finish.

Live Debut and 2027 Tour Dates

“Aini” has aired on FM802 since Oct. 10. That same day, karanoah played it live for the first time at “Maxell presents FM802 Minami Wheel 2026,” taking the stage at Osaka Muse at 5 p.m.

The title also points to the band’s next move. karanoah’s “Log Book Tour 2027 ‘Aini’” starts in January and takes the group to places it has not reached until now, making it a literal trip to meet people.

The tour opens Jan. 15 in Osaka, then heads to Fukuoka and Hokkaido before finishing in Tokyo on Feb. 20. Guest artists will join the Osaka, Fukuoka and Hokkaido shows, while Tokyo will be a one-man show.

It is a fitting arc for a song that begins as a murmur and ends as a promise. The tour that follows is the band’s way of keeping it.
