Godsmack is celebrating more than three decades of live power with Live at Mohegan Sun, a career-spanning concert film that captures the band at full force. At its center is “Battle of the Drums,” an all-percussion showcase.

Live at Mohegan Sun features Sully Erna, Shannon Larkin, Tony Rombola and Robbie Merrill in a celebration of Godsmack’s history. The band has sold more than 20 million records worldwide and earned four GRAMMY nominations.

Battle of the Drums Anchors Godsmack’s Live at Mohegan Sun

“Battle of the Drums” features Erna alongside drummer Shannon Larkin. Performed on two full drum kits, it has become one of the most anticipated moments of every Godsmack show.

The piece began in the mid-1990s with Erna performing percussion alongside Godsmack’s early drummer. It evolved into a full-scale rhythmic duel with two complete drum kits and rotating risers, powered by the chemistry between Erna and Larkin.

The campaign video pairs the performance with archival commentary from Rush drummer Neil Peart. He praised the effort behind it.

“Just to watch this alone as a spectacle was rewarding. I love how much work Sully and Shannon put into it. It’s just a great performance in which a lot of care has been taken, and I congratulate it,” Peart said.

Modern Drummer lauded the performance: “The ‘Battle of the Drums’ is a melodic groove-fest, with chops galore, and some cool musical surprises…it features matching kits, spinning drum risers, a two-drummer face-off, and some world-class drumming.”

“There have been many drum solos in hard rock, but there is none like Godsmack’s ‘Battle of the Drums’,” Modern Drummer added. The showcase is a defining centerpiece of the band’s concerts.

Erna said the piece took years to refine. “It’s an intricate piece. Shannon and I have worked on it for decades and really perfected it into a spectacle.”

“Live at Mohegan Sun captures a moment we’ll always carry with us: the energy, the connection, and the gratitude we feel for the fans who’ve taken this journey with us,” Erna said. Mohegan Sun Arena is the venue at the heart of the live album and film.

Godsmack will release a collectible limited-edition 12-inch picture disc featuring “Battle of the Drums” and “I Stand Alone” from the film. It is part of RSD Black Friday.

The disc will be available exclusively at participating independent record stores on Nov. 27, 2026. Live at Mohegan Sun is also available worldwide in digital and physical formats, including double vinyl, Blu-ray and CD, via Primary Wave.

The band continues to bring Live at Mohegan Sun to audiences on the Rise of Rock World Tour 2026, including an Oct. 24 return to Mohegan Sun Arena. Tickets and information are available at Godsmack.com/Tour.
