SupaBoy Gives Your Old SNES Games a 4.3-Inch Glow-Up
Your dusty Super Nintendo cartridges are about to get a new home. Hyperkin has opened pre-orders for the SupaBoy Crimson and SupaBoy Prime, two translucent retro handhelds built to play original 16-bit games on a 4.3-inch screen.
The pitch is simple: slot in a real SNES cartridge, press power and play. Hyperkin says the handheld requires no emulation, sign-ins or firmware updates, keeping the focus on games you already own.
SupaBoy Release Date, Price and New Colors
The SupaBoy Crimson and SupaBoy Prime launch in the US and Europe on Oct. 28, 2026. Pre-orders are open now through the Hyperkin Store, and shipping is expected to begin the same day.
Hyperkin lists estimated prices of $129.99 in the US, €129.99 in Europe and £119.99 in the UK. Both consoles replace the SupaBoy models currently on sale. Buyers should check the Hyperkin Store for final pricing and regional availability.
The limited-edition SupaBoy Crimson is inspired by the original Japanese Famicom. Hyperkin says it is the first in an annual series of limited-run color updates, a detail collectors will want to note.
The SupaBoy Prime is the standard model. According to Hyperkin, its palette echoes the classic Japanese and European Super Famicom design. Both versions use a translucent casing.
SupaBoy Specs: 4.3-Inch Screen, Battery and TV Output
Both models share a 4.3-inch IPS display, the centerpiece of this glow-up. Hyperkin says the built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery lasts up to 10 hours on a single charge.
An integrated AV output lets players connect the handheld to a compatible television. Two front-facing controller ports also support original or compatible retro controllers for two-player games.
The built-in cartridge slot accepts original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges from PAL, NTSC and Japanese regions. That means one handheld can cover a collection that spans multiple markets.
For anyone with a shelf of Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges, the SupaBoy offers a way to take those games beyond the living room. Crimson is limited, so retro fans may want to keep an eye on stock.
