NBA: Lillard, Curry preferred by GMs to take game-winning shots
Superstars Damian Lillard and Stephen Curry were picked by NBA General Managers as the best players to take a potential game-winning shot, their recent survey showed.
The Portland Trail Blazers scoring guard, who was the “Most Valuable Player” of the 2020 NBA Bubble, received 32% of the votes for the question, “Which player would you want taking a shot with the game on the line?”
Lillard is followed by the two-time MVP Curry, who garnered 25%. Both players are known for their three-point shooting and their ability to hit from a longer range than most NBA shooters.
Rounding out the top 5 are Kevin Durant (18%), Luka Doncic (11%), and Chris Paul (7%). Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns also received votes.
Lillard is best remembered for two game-winning buzzer-beaters. His long range shot in the 2019 playoffs which clinched the first round victory in Game 5 sent the Oklahoma City Thunder home.
He also sent the Houston Rockets home back in the 2014 playoffs with a game-winner in Game 6.
Curry, meanwhile, is known for a handful of game-winners throughout a record-setting career.
He hit a triple that broke the single-game record at the time and enabled the Warriors to beat the Thunder in one of the more memorable regular season games in recent history.
