Gilas Pilipinas: Norwood honored to make 2nd World Cup
Back when no one believed in Gilas Pilipinas’ capability in the world stage, wing man Gabe Norwood introduced the national team in a roaring way, posterizing Luis Scola during their 2014 FIBA World Cup match against Argentina.
And from there on, the nationals have gained the respect of their international opponents.
Now in what is likely his 2nd tour of duty in one of the grandest basketball stages, Norwood feels honored and is looking forward to the experience again.
“It’s an honor. I guess we’re also old,” joked Norwood. “It should be a great experience.”
Norwood is no stranger to Cinderella runs or letting names be known, as he went to college at George Mason, which in 2006 stunned the world with a Final Four appearance.
Being part of the initial World Cup squad this decade was also undeniably an unparalleled milestone for him.
Gearing up for the likes of Serbia, Italy, and Angola in Group D of the group stages, the grizzled Gilas veteran looks forward to enjoying another achievement in his bag.
“Every scenario is its own special case. We are just looking forward to it and enjoy,” said Norwood.
Needless to say, the team will fight and make it competitive still, and who knows if Norwood gets another poster victim to go along with the trip.
