Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather 2 Could Still Happen, Says Stephen Espinoza
Pacquiao, who has a 58-6-2 record with 38 knockout wins, had a vintage performance on Saturday night, as he ran away with a unanimous decision win over Timothy Bradley in their third fight.
According to Espinoza, Pacquiao clearly showed that he still has a lot of gas left in his tank, but that does not mean Mayweather will give him a rematch. But the Showtime czar added that if fans make strong push for it, the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather 2 bout will take place.
“He was active. He showed the power. He was quick,” Espinoza said of Pacquiao via RingTV. “But really in terms of a Mayweather rematch, it’s really up to the audience, to the fans and the writers. I know from talking to Floyd — if there’s demand for a particular fight — I think he will give it strong consideration.”
Mayweather has already announced his retirement after cruising to a unanimous decision victory over Andre Berto in September, which was his 49th victory in as many fights.
The former pound-for-pound king holds an ace after he scored a unanimous decision win over Pacquiao during their record-setting showdown in May last year. Mayweather has already stated there is no reason for a rematch because he walked away with a convincing victory.
But for Espinoza, there could be higher interest in the rematch now compared to several weeks ago after Pacquiao’s victory over Bradley. He said that Pacquiao showed fans he can still perform at a high level, which could make them think that a rematch will be better than the outcome of the first bout last year.
Espinoza added that he is still convinced Mayweather will come out of retirement to chase the 50th victory of his career, saying that the unbeaten boxing icon is just “surveying the landscape” for a potential comeback fight.
