‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Actress Gwendoline Christie Confirms Return

“ThGwendoline_Christie_by_Gage_Skidmore_2e Force Awakens” actress Gwendoline Christie has confirmed that she will be reprising her role as Captain Phasma in “Star Wars: Episode 8.”

The star, who is also seen in HBO’s “Game of Thrones” talked with People  during the SAG Awards night Saturday and stated she’s “very overexcited,” about coming back.  I made no secret of the fact that I really campaigned for the part for a long time,” the actrss said. “And then I was delighted when J.J. Abrams wanted to have me in the film and then wanted to cast me in this role that had originally been designed for a man.”

Captain Phasma was supposed to be played by a man, but the actress, who stands at 6′ 3, proved herself quite intimidating. Per Variety, she got the part a few weeks before shooting for “The Force Awakens.”

Cinema Blend  reports that fan theories regarding Captain Phasma have been emerging ever since the character “dies” in the movie. One theory suggested Phasma could be a double agent and is part of the resistance.

“Star Wars: Episode 8” won’t be in theaters until Dec. 2017.
