Terrific 12: Romeo, San Miguel wax hot to beat China’s Shenzen

Terrence Romeo caught fire in the 4th quarter to lift San Miguel Beer to a 90-76 win over the Shenzen Aviators in their East Asia Super League Terrific 12 2019 tournament opener Wednesday in Macau.

Romeo hit 3 triples in the payoff period, as the Beermen closed out the game strong, outscoring their CBA counterparts 22-11 after Shenzen pulled within 65-68.

The point guard had 17 points on 4/7 3s, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

Import Dez Wells, who will be San Miguel’s reinforcement in the PBA Governors’ Cup, impressed with 29 points on 55% field goal shooting, 7 boards, 4 dimes, and 5 steals.

Chris Ross added 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals while 2nd import Lester Prosper had 10 points and 15 boards.

Pierre Jackson led the Chinese ball club with 18 points.

The Beermen took a 33-13 lead in the 1st half behind the superb play of their 2 imports, although Shenzen battled back and cut the deficit down to 62-61.

That was when Wells took charge and then Romeo hit 2 triples while Arwind Santos and Von Pessumal each added one each for an 18-6 run.

San Miguel and Shenzen are in Group B of the 12-team tournament along with the Ryukyu Golden Kings.

Only the top teams in each of the 4 groups will advance to the knockout semi-finals.
