Bitmap Books launches Fatal Fury ultimate history book
Bitmap Books has announced the release of its latest premium gaming publication, Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu: The Ultimate History, now available in both Standard and Collector’s Editions. The Standard Edition is priced at £34.99, while the Collector’s Edition is available for £54.99.
The new title serves as a comprehensive tribute to SNK’s long-running fighting game franchise, which has been a defining force in the genre since its debut in 1991. Spanning seven mainline entries, the Fatal Fury series—known in Japan as Garou Densetsu—has remained a cornerstone of competitive fighting games due to its gameplay depth and iconic roster.

A deep dive into SNK history
Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu: The Ultimate History spans 460 pages and features archival materials, concept sketches, promotional artwork, and detailed visual content sourced directly from SNK’s archives. The book was produced using premium printing techniques, including Pantone inks and high-quality paper to enhance visual presentation.
The publication also includes insights from key developers across the series, including pixel artists Hitoshi Okamoto, Youichiro Soeda, and Nobuyuki Kuroki, alongside planner and designer Takeshi Kimura and SNK Fighting Games chief producer Yasuyuki Oda, who also contributed the foreword.
The book explores the design evolution of the Fatal Fury franchise, along with its connections to other SNK properties such as King of Fighters and Art of Fighting. It also provides detailed coverage of major entries including Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

Premium collector’s release
The Standard Edition comes in a hardcover format with cover artwork designed to complement Bitmap Books’ wider SNK collection, which includes titles such as Metal Slug: The Ultimate History and NEOGEO: A Visual History.
The Collector’s Edition offers additional exclusive materials, presented in an interactive slipcase designed for dedicated fans and collectors of gaming history.
Both editions are positioned as definitive visual and historical records of the Fatal Fury franchise, combining artwork, developer commentary, and archival material into a single premium volume.
