More than 20 records could be broken at the 52nd American Music Awards in 2026, according to data compiled by VegasInsider.com, with potential milestones stretching across overall AMA history, major award categories, and genre-specific achievements. The projected records involve some of the music industry’s biggest global stars, including Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, and Tyla.

The analysis highlights a combination of record extensions, historic firsts, and category milestones that could reshape the American Music Awards record books. Several of the projected achievements would also mark cultural breakthroughs across hip-hop, Latin, Afrobeats, and R&B categories.

Taylor Swift remains at the center of several possible record-breaking outcomes heading into the ceremony. The singer currently holds the record as the most awarded artist in AMA history with 40 career victories and is nominated for eight additional awards in 2026, which could raise her total to 48 wins.

Swift could also tie the record for the most AMAs won in a single night, a feat currently shared by Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. Jackson earned eight awards during the 1984 ceremony, while Houston matched the total in 1994. With eight nominations this year, Swift has an opportunity to equal that historic benchmark.

Beyond overall totals, Swift could continue extending her dominance in multiple categories. A win in Artist of the Year would give her an eighth victory in the category after previous wins in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2022. She could also add to her records in Best Female Pop Artist, Best Pop Album, and Best Music Video.

Historic firsts possible

The Artist of the Year category could produce several groundbreaking outcomes during the 2026 ceremony. Justin Bieber could become the first male artist to win the award three times after previously taking the honor in 2010 and 2012.

Bruno Mars and BTS are also positioned to join a small group of acts with multiple Artist of the Year victories. Both artists already own one win in the category and could join Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and One Direction as repeat winners.

Kendrick Lamar could also make history by becoming the first hip-hop artist to win Artist of the Year. Meanwhile, Bad Bunny could become the first Latin artist to capture the ceremony’s top honor, signaling another major milestone for global representation at the awards show.

In New Artist of the Year, Katseye could become the first all-female group to win the category. Ella Langley or Olivia Dean could also continue the streak of female solo artists winning the award, which began with Camila Cabello in 2018 and could reach seven consecutive years.

Leon Thomas is likewise positioned for a historic breakthrough, as he could become the first R&B artist to ever win New Artist of the Year. The category reflects the growing diversity of genres represented among emerging mainstream acts.

Best Music Video also features potential history-making outcomes. Taylor Swift, nominated for “The Faith Of Ophelia,” could extend her record with a fourth victory in the category after previous wins in 2019, 2020, and 2022. Katseye, nominated for “Gnarly,” could become the first all-female group to secure the award.

Genre categories draw focus

Several genre-specific categories also feature major milestones entering the 2026 ceremony. Beyoncé could become the first solo artist to win Tour of the Year multiple times after previously winning for the Formation World Tour and earning another nomination for the Cowboy Carter tour.

In pop categories, Swift could extend her Best Female Pop Artist record with an eighth win, while Justin Bieber could add to his own Best Male Pop Artist record with a potential fifth victory. Swift could also secure a sixth career win in Best Pop Album.

The hip-hop categories could see Cardi B continue her dominance in Best Hip-Hop Song if “ErrTime” wins in 2026. She currently holds the record with three victories and could extend it to four. Drake, meanwhile, could tie Cardi B’s mark if “Nokia” secures the category win.

R&B categories also feature potential history-making achievements. Tyla could become the first South African artist to win Best Female R&B Artist, while Bruno Mars could move ahead of Michael Jackson in Best R&B Song history with a fourth victory for “I Just Might.”

In Latin categories, Bad Bunny could extend his record in Best Male Latin Artist with a fifth career win. In Afrobeats, Tyla or Wizkid could each become the first artist to win Best Afrobeats Artist multiple times after previously winning the category once.

Rock legends Linkin Park are also in position to extend their dominance in Best Rock/Alternative Artist. The band currently holds the record with six victories and could further increase their total with another win in 2026.

Taken together, the projected milestones suggest the 52nd American Music Awards could become one of the most historically significant ceremonies in recent years. With records potentially falling across multiple genres and categories, the 2026 event could further reshape the landscape of AMA history while highlighting the increasingly global reach of contemporary music.
