For years, families of the Jesse M. Robredo Village Homeowners’ Association endured uncertainty while waiting for permanent shelter. That long journey finally reached a historic breakthrough on April 30, when the first beneficiaries officially received their new homes at San Miguel de Manila Residences in Barangay San Miguel, Manila.

The milestone marks a life-changing transition for families once living in danger zones near Estero de San Miguel, Quiapo, San Sebastian, and P. Casal, replacing years of vulnerability with the promise of secure and dignified community living.

SHFC delivers long-awaited housing relief for displaced Manila families

The ceremonial turnover covered the first 35 housing units within the broader high-density housing development that is expected to benefit more than 170 families.

Led by Social Housing Finance Corporation President and CEO Federico Laxa together with agency officials, local government leaders, and community development partners, the event symbolized the fulfillment of years of planning, advocacy, and determination by residents who had fought for stable housing.

The occasion included ribbon-cutting and house blessing ceremonies, officially signaling the beginning of a new chapter for beneficiaries whose daily struggles had long been shaped by unsafe and unstable living conditions.

Laxa underscored that SHFC’s commitment goes beyond simply handing over homes, stressing the agency’s wider mission to connect residents with additional government support and benefits that can strengthen their long-term welfare.

National 4PH housing agenda gains momentum through urban projects

San Miguel de Manila Residences forms part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Program, which seeks to accelerate affordable housing access for underserved Filipino communities nationwide.

By prioritizing safe, permanent relocation for vulnerable urban families, the initiative directly addresses housing insecurity while supporting broader social development and urban renewal objectives.

The Manila project also reflects SHFC’s expanding vertical housing strategy, with similar developments underway in Pampanga, Davao, Misamis Oriental, Palawan, and Quezon City as the agency scales its national reach.

For Jesse M. Robredo Village residents, however, the significance extends beyond policy. Community leaders described the turnover as the realization of years of hope, unity, and perseverance.

The new residences represent not just physical structures but a foundation for improved quality of life, security, and future opportunity for families who had long waited for meaningful change.

As SHFC continues implementing large-scale housing projects across the country, the successful transition of these Manila families serves as a powerful example of how socialized housing can transform vulnerable communities through stability, dignity, and renewed hope.
