Gibson has announced the release of the Mark Morton Les Paul™ Modern Quilt, a signature guitar co-designed with Mark Morton, guitarist and co-founder of Lamb of God. The model captures Morton’s signature heavy metal tone, combining precision, power, and playability. It is available worldwide at Gibson Garage locations, authorized Gibson Custom dealers, and Gibson.com.

Morton is known for his ferocious riffs, intricate solos, and genre-defining metal, thrash, and blues influences. The Mark Morton Les Paul Modern Quilt reflects that same fearless spirit while staying true to the heritage of the Les Paul. Its design balances a classic aesthetic with modern features tailored to high-performance metal playing.

Design and playability

Morton says the quilted top and trans black satin finish create a “dark and metal” look while maintaining the classic Les Paul shape. The slim taper neck allows comfortable access to upper frets, and the ebony fretboard ensures fast, smooth playability. “The 60s style knobs are a throwback to previous Les Paul models,” Morton added, emphasizing attention to detail in every element of the guitar.

Gibson developed custom pickups specifically for this model. The neck pickup is ceramic-based with moderate output, enabling clean tones and volume control. The bridge pickup delivers high output for heavy, gain-driven riffs. Morton tested multiple prototypes on tour to fine-tune the sound and performance under real-world conditions.

Legacy and impact

Morton described the guitar as “an iconic piece of music history” and expressed pride in joining the legacy of the Les Paul. He highlighted the collaborative process with Gibson Master Luthier Jim DeCola and the Gibson Pickup Shop, noting that hands-on testing during live performances shaped the final product. “I am thrilled with the outcome. These are great guitars, and people are really going to like them,” Morton said.

The Mark Morton Les Paul Modern Quilt combines classic Les Paul aesthetics with modern metal performance. Its design, custom pickups, and playability make it a signature instrument for players seeking high-output precision and style.
