SHFC declares one-month moratorium on housing amortizations for disaster-hit communities
The Social Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC) has declared a one-month moratorium on housing amortization payments for partner-homeowners in areas affected by recent natural disasters, providing immediate relief to families reeling from the impact of the calamities.
The move comes in response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive and the instruction of Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling to extend urgent support to disaster-hit communities.

Relief for earthquake- and typhoon-affected families
The moratorium covers SHFC member-beneficiaries affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu, as well as those impacted by Typhoons Nando and Opong across Region IV-B (MIMAROPA), Region V (Bicol), and Region VI (Western Visayas).
SHFC President and CEO Federico Laxa said the measure aims to ease the financial burden of affected households, allowing them to focus on recovery. “Our priority is the welfare of our communities. By suspending monthly amortization payments, we are giving them space to stand back on their feet without the added pressure of financial obligations,” Laxa said.
Part of SHFC’s support mandate
The moratorium is part of SHFC’s continuing efforts to act as “Kaagapay ng Komunidad,” reinforcing its role as a partner in building safe, affordable, and resilient housing communities nationwide.
