Senegal puts energy and youth at the heart of Fii Senegal 2025

Senegal is putting energy and youth at the center of its future. The country will showcase both priorities at Fii Senegal 2025, set for October 7 and 8 at the CICAD in Diamniadio.
Bakary Séga Bathily, director general of APIX, said the two forces cannot be separated. “Energy and youth are not two separate priorities—they are the most powerful drivers of Senegal’s growth,” he said.
The forum comes just weeks after Senegal launched a $300 million solar-for-agriculture program. It is the largest investment yet to bring electricity to rural communities. The government aims to achieve universal power access and increase renewable energy to 40 percent of its supply by 2030.
Senegal targets renewable growth
Officials and energy leaders will discuss opportunities in solar, wind, gas, and oil. Confirmed speakers include COS-PETROGAZ permanent secretary Khadim Bamba Diagne, Energy Minister Birame Souleye Diop, and representatives from DFC, WAPP, and CIS.
Today, 84 percent of Senegalese have access to electricity, but many rural areas remain underserved. Under the Just Energy Transition Partnership, the country plans to raise power production by 70 percent. A major milestone was last year’s launch of Africa’s first floating regasification and power generation unit.
Youth as the second pillar
Senegal is also betting on its demographic strength. Three in four citizens are under 35. Leaders say this youthful base will be crucial in building projects, providing skilled labor, and driving innovation.
“Fii Senegal 2025 will demonstrate how these projects translate into opportunities that empower youth, accelerate our energy transition, and position Senegal as a major global investment hub,” Bathily said.
