DOST-TAPI’s New Media Circle Eyes Bigger Spotlight for PH Tech
The Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) has officially launched the S&T Media Circle, a dedicated, permanent network of media partners designed to give journalists direct access to the country’s innovation ecosystem — and put Filipino science and technology squarely in the national spotlight.
Media Partners to Get Priority Access and Exclusive Interviews
During the launch session, Mirielle V. Vacal, Science Research Specialist II and Media Core Representative of DOST-TAPI, laid out the circle’s institutional commitments and unveiled a strategic operational roadmap spanning 2026 to 2027.

Members who join the S&T Media Circle will receive a range of priority access privileges. These include first access to official media kits, fast-tracked clearance for exclusive one-on-one interviews with executives and inventors, and advance, embargoed data on upcoming technology rollouts.
The framework behind the initiative draws on scholarly research that positions journalism as the critical “fourth strand” of the innovation ecosystem, working alongside industry, academia and government. By moving away from traditional communication structures, the initiative creates a mutually beneficial ecosystem — one where journalists gain fresh, verified and unique story angles, while local innovators secure the public visibility they deserve.
“This is a long-term infrastructure for science communication, and we want to ensure that every story of Filipino brilliance finds its platform,” Vacal said. She added that the Institute’s Media and External (MEE) Unit — supervised by Division Chief Mark Anthony C. Bigayan, alongside core members Heherson P. Valdez and Cyril Mark P. Castres — will serve as the Institute’s official liaison office for members of the media.
DOST-TAPI Maps Out High-Impact Engagements Through 2027
Anticipating a highly active partnership, DOST-TAPI announced a series of high-impact engagements over the next two years, with Media Circle members expected to play an active role in the Institute’s communication and promotional initiatives.
Key milestones on the roadmap include the Lunduyan x Tech Summit in August 2026, DOST-TAPI’s 40th anniversary celebration in January 2027, ClusteRICE 2027 and PHILIPPiNEXT 2027.
Through the S&T Media Circle, DOST-TAPI aims to strengthen public awareness and appreciation of Filipino science, technology and innovation through strategic media engagement. The initiative is expected to foster greater visibility and recognition of local innovations and homegrown technologies, bringing them closer to communities nationwide.
Media networks, science communicators and digital creators interested in joining the DOST-TAPI S&T Media Circle may register and coordinate directly through ccu@tapi.dost.gov.ph.
