SEA Games 3×3: Double gold for Gilas Pilipinas
Gilas Pilipinas accomplished its mission in the 1st-ever 3×3 basketball staging of the 30th Southeast Asian Games 2019 in the Philippines after winning golds in both the men’s and women’s tournaments Monday.
Moala Tautuaa led the nationals in a dominant 21-9 win over Indonesia in the gold medal game of the men’s tournament.
The opposition had no answers for Tautuaa’s size and strength as he and the rest of the nationals – CJ Perez, Chris Newsome, and Jason Perkins – topped the competition with an unblemished slate.
Meanwhile, Jack Animam, Clare Castro, Afril Bernardino, and Janine Pontejos also hoisted gold medals as the women’s national 3×3 team beat Thailand, 17-13 in their own final.
It was the 1st time 3×3 basketball was included in the regional meet.
