Gilas Pilipinas Women to head to New Zealand for Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament
Gilas Pilipinas Women will head to New Zealand in November for the FIBA Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Women as the Oceania nation will host Group A of the games.
The Philippines is joined by Korea, China, and the hosts in the tournament while Malaysia hosts Group B squads Australia, Japan, Chinese Taipei, and India.
Only 4 nations from the Asia-Oceania region will advance further into the 2020 Olympic Qualifying Tournaments for Women.
Gilas Women, led by stalwarts like Jack Animam, Afril Bernardino, Gemma Miranda, and Fil-Am Kelli Hayes, finished 7th in the recent FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2019.
Their participation in the Pre-OQT is a testament to the team’s continuous growth in the women’s basketball game in the decade.
