Pivot of Hearts, an upcoming visual novel set in São Paulo, Brazil, invites players to experience relationships through the perspective of Wén Xiàn, a Taiwanese-Brazilian protagonist navigating romance, personal growth, and non-monogamous relationships.
As part of Steam’s Visual Novel Fest (March 3 – 10, 2025), Dragonroll Studio has launched an updated demo with enhanced assets, animations, and sound effects, giving players a first look at this heartfelt and innovative story.
A Fresh Take on Visual Novels
According to Lead Developer Wilson Kazuo Mizutani, Pivot of Hearts brings new ideas to the genre by blending:
- Deeply personal storytelling
- Tarot-inspired interactive mechanics
- A grounded look at non-monogamy
“We have been crafting this game with love and care since 2019, and now that the finish line is in sight, we cannot wait for players to experience what we have built,” said Mizutani.
The game offers a diverse, relatable cast and a setting that feels real to both local and international players.
“We wanted players to go, ‘Oh, I know that guy!’ while also spotlighting Brazilian culture, like Festa Junina, just as Japanese media celebrates Matsuri or High School Cultural Festivals,” added Art Director Lívia Santos.
A Story of Representation and Inclusion
Pivot of Hearts follows Wén Xiàn, a game developer in São Paulo, as he reconnects with Etsuko while forming a new bond with Cauã. Through four chapters, five endings, and over 100,000 words, players explore themes of:
- Love and relationship diversity
- Identity and self-discovery
- Deep narrative choices through tarot-based mechanics
