It’s official: Kai Sotto signs with NBA G-League

Filipino top international prospect Kai Sotto has officially signed with the NBA G-League professional pathway program.

Both the 18-year-old center and the G-League announced the signing on Wednesday (United States time).

It will be the next step in the 7-foot-2 Sotto’s attempt to be the first homegrown Filipino player in the NBA.

Under the G-League program, Sotto will be playing in a developmental squad alongside consensus top prospect Jalen Green, Isaiah Todd, and Daishen Nix for Southern California.

The squad will be developed and get accustomed to the NBA game while playing against official G-League teams.

Sotto also released his statement on Instagram, saying going this route and foregoing college is the best option for his dream.

“Now, I have to take the next big step towards my NBA dream. We have many options available but after much thought, I believe this option is the best route for me to get closer and faster to that dream. Here, I will be playing with some of the very best and I will have even more resources and support. I am committed to work on developing my game on a much bigger stage,” he wrote.

Sotto is the no. 4 ranked prospect in the state of Georgia and is a projected first rounder in the 2021 NBA Draft.
