Alab Pilipinas: Sol Mercado given offer to join ABL team

PBA veteran Sol Mercado has been offered a roster spot to join San Miguel Alab Pilipinas for the remainder of the 2019-2020 ASEAN Basketball League season.

Without a team in the PBA currently, the 5-11 guard has been working out with Alab, according to an online report.

The 35-year-old Fil-Am guard is being managed by agent Charlie Dy, who owns Alab Pilipinas.

However, Mercado clarified working out with the team was only to stay in shape as he is prioritizing landing on a PBA team.

He added he also wanted to keep in touch with his Barangay Ginebra teammate Justin Brownlee. He is also close friends with Alab head coach Jimmy Alapag.

Mercado was traded to Northport in the middle of the 2019 PBA season before being traded anew to Phoenix.

There has been no negotiation nor agreement between Mercado and Phoenix, leaving the 2008 5th overall pick without a team.
