Alab Pilipinas beats Singapore Slingers for 2nd straight OT win

San Miguel Alab Pilipinas needed another extension but delivered when it mattered to beat the Singapore Slingers, 86-77 in the continuing 2019-2020 season of the ASEAN Basketball League Sunday in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Alab outscored the Slingers, 15-6 in the overtime period for its 2nd straight win, improving to 8-4 in the team standings.

Nick King topscored with 20 points and added 9 rebounds, while Sam Deguara had a big effort with 20 rebounds to go with his 8 points. Jason Brickman added 16 points and 5 assists.

The Slingers bounced back in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Alab 24-12 before the two sides went back and forth in the payoff period to set up an overtime battle.

Alab then launched a 6-0 run behind its 3 world imports. Deguara opened scoring in OT with a bucket, followed by free throws from Prince Williams before King hit the dagger jumper with over a minute.

The home team pulled out stops throughout overtime, limiting Singapore to just 6 points in the period.

Coach Jimmy Alapag’s wards had a decisive 54-36 edge in rebounding, limiting the Slingers’ possessions.

Leon Kwek led the Slingers with 19 points, followed by 18 markers from Marcus Elliott. Xavier Alexander, however, was limited to 11 points on 4/11 shooting.

Before the game, Alab paid a tribute to NBA legend Kobe Bryant, who passed away last week.
