San Miguel motivated to win 6th PH Cup title after Govs Cup downfall

The San Miguel Beermen are determined to win an even more legendary 6th straight PBA Philippine Cup title especially after ending the last season on a sour note.

The Beermen got eliminated in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup quarter-finals, again dashing the club’s hopes for a grand slam run.

It was the same scenario in 2017 when they won back to back titles (Philippine and Commissioner’s Cups) but failed to win the season-ending conference title.

Beermen head coach Leo Austria said all teams are going after them, and they have a huge target on their backs.

“Any coach in the PBA naman talagang target ang team namin dahil naka-five-peat na kami (in the Philippine Cup),” said Austria per an online report.

Barangay Ginebra’s Tim Cone and LA Tenorio, in particular, have went on record saying that the Gin Kings would definitely want to end San Miguel’s all-Filipino reign.

But Austria thinks his crew will be up for the challenge, considering the downfall they had a few months back.

“After ng nangyari mas motivated pa mga players. Alam nila na we have to do our best. Alam na nila what’s at stake,” he said.
