SEA Games 2019: Gilas Pilipinas beat Indonesia, near 18th gold
Gilas Pilipinas Men put on a 3rd quarter show to beat Indonesia, 97-70 in the on-going 2019 Southeast Asian Games basketball tournament Monday at the MOA Arena in Manila.
Using a 39-17 3rd frame, Gilas pulled away to book the big win and set up a title match against Thailand, which earlier beat Vietnam, 101-95.
Christian Standhardinger scored 14 points, Matthew Wright added 13 points and 8 assists, while Chris Ross added 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 dimes.
Ross had 3 triples in a 20-2 run by Gilas in the penultimate period, as the nationals opened up a 24-point cushion.
The Indonesians were able to withstand Gilas’ might early on, trailing by only 4 points after the 1st quarter, 24-20.
The Philippines is targeting an 18th gold medal overall in the SEA Games since basketball’s inception in 1977.
