Gilas Pilipinas: Guiao satisfied with Ravena return from 18-month suspension
Kiefer Ravena felt glad to finally be able to return to a competitive and organized basketball game after his FIBA-imposed 18-month ban has finally been lifted.
Ravena played 17 minutes in Gilas Pilipinas’ 2nd tune-up game over the Adelaide 36ers, and scored 11 points. He had a stretch of 7 straight points when he 1st checked into the game, showing everyone that he hasn’t skipped a beat.
Unfortunately, Gilas lost to the Australian club, 75-85.
Still, Ravena expressed how grateful he is to finally hit the hardcourt once again.
“It could have been a better ending for us going to the World Cup, but for me, I just want to get my feet wet especially ang tagal ko hindi nakalaro. It was really nice to be aroung the guys again,” said Ravena per ABS-CBN Sports’ Paul Lintag.
Gilas head coach Yeng Guiao also felt impressed with how Ravena performed.
“I’m happy. I’m satisfied. I’m impressed, actually. It was his first game but it was already impressive,” said Guiao per Rappler.com.
Moments later, it was announced that Ravena is part of the FIBA World Cup-bound roster.
While there will still be doubts and skepticism regarding his inclusion, Ravena instead focused on just how he will be able to play for the national team.
“I’m just back to playing the sport that I love and representing my country to the highest and best of my abilities,” said Ravena.
