Chris Ross on San Miguel’s upset of Northport: ‘We have Arwind Santos’

The San Miguel Beermen showed resiliency against a tough and higher-seeded Northport Batang Pier crew, concluding their series with a pulsating 90-88 victory on Wednesday which allowed them to advance to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semi-finals.

After blowing a double-digit 4th quarter lead and trailing by 4, 82-86 with 1:51 to go, the Beermen were saved by the heroics of Arwind Santos, who made 5 straight points including a tough triple.

Santos finished with 10 poinsts and 10 boards and ultimately helped his team to keep their season alive.

Chris Ross was one of those who took notice of Santos’ clutch plays, saying: “Luckily, we have Arwind Santos. I don’t know how many time he’s made that shot from that spot. He scored five straight points.”

Santos gave San Miguel an 87-86 lead then Robert Bolick scored another lay-up on the other end. Then, Chris McCullough came through for the Beermen with a go-ahead basket in the end.

Santos himself felt fortunate, detailing that being the 7th seed was a different look for a powerhouse team like the Beermen.

San Miguel will battle the winner of Blackwater-Rain or Shine.
