Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ First Teaser Released

Disney has finally released a 90-second teaser of the much-awaited live-action adaptation of “Mulan,” which features Chinese superstar Yifeu Lu in the titular role.

The movie is a slight deviation from the 1998 animation that millions of viewers have come to love and grew up with all these years.

Directed by Niki Caro, “Mulan” is about a young woman set to be matched in marriage but chose to pose as a male warrior in order to fight in her father’s place. When Hua Zhou (played by Tzi Ma) is recalled to join the military to fight the Huns, Mulan puts on a disguise to that she can take his place for the Imperial Army.

The movie also stars Jet Li, as the Emperor, Donnie Yen (“Rogue One”) as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee, Ron Yuan, Xana Tang and Gong Li as Xiannang a new character for this live-action take. The trailer does not reveal Mulan’s animal companions like Mushu the dragon or Cri-Kee the cricket but the latter has been reportedly voiced by Jun Yu.

Quiet, composed, graceful, discipline, these are the qualities we see in a good wife. These are the qualities we see in Mulan,” says an old woman in the teaser. The scene cuts to Mulan all dolled up and ready to meet her betrothed but the next scene shows the soldiers, including Mulan, getting down to business as they train to defeat the Huns.

“It is my duty to fight,” Mulan says in the teaser. “I will bring honor to us all.”

The Disney movie is expected to hit theaters in March 2020.

Meanwhile, this July will finally unveil the live-action version of “The Lion King” in the theaters. It follows “Aladdin” with Will Smith, which has already crossed almost one billion at the box office.

Disney is also set to do a live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” with Haile Bailey as Ariel.
