Last April, Kenya shocked the rugby world by winning its maiden cup final in Singapore and in nine weeks time, South Africa might keep the Singapore Rugby 7s title in the African continent. The Blitzboks are currently looking unstoppable after winning the Sydney 7s this afternon by beating England 29-14. Last Sunday, South Africa also won the Wellington 7s by upsetting Olympic champions Fiji 26-5.

The South Africans has reached the final in the first four rounds of this year’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and won three Cup finals. They won the season opener at the Dubai 7s by beating reigning HSBC World Sevens Series champion Fiji 26-14, before suffering an upset on home soil to England 17-19 in the Cape Town 7s.

South Africa took revenge this afternoon by brushing aside Rio Olympics silver medallist England in Sydney to claim back to back titles on the World Sevens Series.

“The team stuck to the structure and well done to them,” said captain and flanker Philip Snyman. “It is extra special as its our first back-to-back in Australasia so hats off to all in the system and to our friends and family back home for the support.”

For the second week in a row, South Africa’s superstar performer Seabelo Senatla was named the HSBC Player of the Final. Senatla is the leading try scorer this season with 30 tries, seven ahead of England’s Dan Norton and he has contributed a massive 160 points to his team in just four tournaments.

“It is incredible, the guys are just magicians, hats off to them, I’m just the finsher of the moves,” said speedster Senatla, who impressed the fans in Singapore last April with his dazzling runs.

The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series will resume next month in Las Vegas and Vancouver before moving to Asia for the Hong Kong 7s and the Singapore 7s in April. After four legs of the 10-city Series, South Africa is leading with 85 points, 17 ahead of England, while defending Series champion is on 64 points. 12-time Series champion New Zealand is lying fourth on the standing 29 points behind the leader.

Singapore is the only city in Southeast Asia hosting a stop on the prestigious HSBC World Rugby 7s Series.
