Gina Torres, known for her role as Jessica Pearson in “Suits,” is quitting the series. The actress’ exit has been played out in the show’s summer finale, which aired on Wednesday, Sept.  14.

TV Guide reports that the actress has opted not to renew her contract with the series, which ends after the Season 6 run. Her character will supposedly be “phased out” for the rest of the season. “Suits” second half is expected to return in early 2017, to culminate in the spring.

Jessica Pearson’s storyline has been hinted in the previous episodes of “Suits” Season 6 with the return of her former lover Jeff (DB Woodside). It was revealed in past episodes that Jeff has decided to move Chicago and he’s invited Jessica to come with him. It’s likely that she will decide to take on the offer and leave her law firm with Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) and Louis Litt (Rick Hoffman).

“Suits” has been renewed for a Season 7 on USA Network though, which is expected to begin its run in the summer of 2017. Creator Aaron Korsh is positive of a Season 8 pick up as well. “I would say we’re not in the upswing of the show’s life cycle. There have been shows that have lasted a long time and much longer than us, twice as long at least. I don’t know how close we are to the end, but I know we’re very likely closer to the end than we are to the beginning,” he said, per TV Line.
