Oprah to Return To TV Acting In New TV Series ‘Greenleaf’
Oprah Winfrey is heading to scripted drama series. The TV icon and TV host is starring on “Greenleaf,” which she also produced at her OWN network.
The show is about a preacher’s daughter who returns to her hometown in Memphis following a rift with her family. “Greenleaf” refers to Grace Greanleaf played by Merle Dandridge. Her parents are played by Keith David and Lynn Whitfield.
Oprah has a recurring part on the TV show as Mavis, the aunt of Grace. Mavis also owns a club and is described as a manipulative person and some sort of a whore. This marks Oprah’s return to acting on television following her last TV stint as an actress in “Brewster’s Place in the 90s.
Catch “Greenleaf” every Wednesday beginning June 21, which is the show’s premiere. The first night will run for two hours, after which the series will be an hour-long drama every week for 13 episodes.
