Carrie Preston is going to star in her own TV show on ABC when “The Good Wife” bows out this season. The actress will headline “When We Rise” a series that features the gay rights movement and Gus Van Sant is set to direct the pilot.

Deadline reports that the show will be about the challenges and struggles of families at the height of the Civil Rights movement. Preston is Sally Gearheart, an activist and gay rights supporter.

The actress, who is married to Michael Emerson (“Person of Interest”) in real life is currently starring in the comedy series “Crowded” for NBC. She has a recurring but unforgettable role on “The Good Wife” as the quirky lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni. Dustin Lance Black and Bruce Cohen wrote the script to the series, which was first announced as in development back in December.
