Tim Cone: SMB-TNT PBA Comms Cup finals ‘interesting’

The TNT KaTropa finally closed their best-of-5 semi-finals series against crowd darlings Barangay Ginebra San Miguel after a come-from-behind 103-92 victory in Game 4 Thursday night.

After trailing in the 1st half, the KaTropa outscored Ginebra, 45-30 in the 2nd half to book a seat to the championship stage.

Ginebra head coach Tim Cone admitted TNT “played better” than they did, and went on to say the finals series would be “interesting.”

“They outplayed us and played better than we did. They have a shot at winning the championship. Going against San Miguel, if San Miguel (wins) would be interesting,” he said.

Cone added Ginebra was unable to execute in the 2nd half, which costed them the series and their conference.

“We lost our poise a little bit, started rushing, took tough shots, and they took advantage of it. Had a few turnovers … that changed the game,” he said.

Cone didn’t divulge what he told his players during their final locker room huddle prior to exiting the venue.

“That’s between us. What stays in the locker room stays in the locker,” he said.

Ginebra will look to contend for the season-ending Governors’ Cup in September.
