Ginebra’s Brownlee hopes TNT loss gives motivation for Govs Cup

Just when it looked like Barangay Ginebra was on their way to forcing a 5th and deciding game in the semi-finals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, the TNT KaTropa flipped the defensive switch in the 2nd half to close out the series with a 103-92 win.

TNT limited Ginebra to only 30 2nd half points after a high-scoring 1st half exchange, and that proved to be the killer blow in the series which the KaTropa won, 3-1.

Ginebra import Justin Brownlee acknowledged the great defensive game TNT played, mentioning that it was what gave their opponents the win.

“Their defense, we didn’t get a good offensive rhythm because of their tough defense. I think that’s the difference between the first half and the second half (in this game),” he said.

“It’s very hard. Their defense was pretty consistent for most of the series. We tried our best but give them credit.”

Brownlee were a couple of rebounds and an assist short of a triple-double, finishing with an all-around 27 points, 9 boards, and 8 dimes, although overall, the squad shot 44% and had 16 turnovers.

Moving on from the conference, Brownlee hopes the loss would give motivation to the GinKings for the season-ending Governors’ Cup.

“Hopefully, it can give us some fuel for the Governors’ Cup, even though it would be a lot different because of the import styles,” he said.
