Corgi Race Vilnius 2025 returns with global meet-ups and two days of canine fun

Vilnius, Lithuania will once again transform into the world’s quirkiest sporting arena as Corgi Race Vilnius 2025 kicks off on August 23–24. More than 100 Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh corgis will race, bark, and strut their way into fans’ hearts during the fourth and most international edition of the event, which has captured a global audience since going viral last year.
This year’s race promises more speed, charm, and surprises, with participants flying in from across Europe and beyond. For the first time, the weekend will also feature live Portal meet-ups that link corgi enthusiasts in Vilnius with fans in countries including Ireland, Poland, and the United States, creating a truly global celebration.
Two days of races, contests, and global connections
Day one will take over Vingis Park, a tree-lined hub in central Vilnius, where spectators can watch corgis dash down a 50-meter sprint track in heats and finals. Other crowd favorites include the “Mightiest Voice” barking contest, the “Smartest Corgi” puzzle challenge, and a vibrant costume parade that promises wildly creative outfits.
Day two moves the excitement to Town Hall Square for the World Corgi Meetup, set against the backdrop of the city’s famous Portals — futuristic circular sculptures that livestream unfiltered video between locations worldwide. The result is a playful, heartwarming exchange that unites dog lovers across continents.
From backyard bet to international sensation
Corgi Race Vilnius began in 2020 as a friendly competition between two local corgi owners to see whose pet was faster. The debut drew 40 corgis and 1,000 spectators, sparking an annual tradition that now draws thousands of fans and has become a fixture in Vilnius’ summer calendar. Last year’s race reached over 300 million viewers online, cementing its status as a global viral phenomenon.
Vilnius itself is gaining a reputation as a dog-friendly capital, with riverside promenades, welcoming cafés, and parks ideal for four-legged visitors. Visitors can also explore the Lithuanian National Museum’s “History Wags the Tail” exhibit, running until October 26, which celebrates the human–dog bond through artefacts, interactive displays, and special events.
