Island-Hopping EV Adventure Shatters Range Anxiety
GAC owner Romel Emperado completed an ambitious 1,492-kilometer cross-country trek from Luzon all the way down to Mindanao. Traveling through regions like Samar and Leyte, Emperado managed energy efficiently using single-pedal driving and regenerative braking.
By maintaining steady highway cruising speeds between 80 and 100 km/h, he achieved an impressive energy rating of 13.9 kWh per 100 km. Emperado charged his AION V at local Airbnbs and shopping malls, eliminating hefty monthly diesel expenses in the process.
Fellow driver Rommel Laranjo tested his electric SUV on a long family road trip from Cebu to Mindanao via ferry passages. He highlighted how keeping the air conditioning running during long embarkation waits caused minimal power drain without exhaust fumes.
Real-World Test Validates Electric Mobility Future
Laranjo completed his journey with 36 percent battery remaining, translating to 183 kilometers of unused range. Paired with a home solar setup, switching from a conventional diesel SUV drastically lowered his weekly fuel expenditures.
Masato Katsumata, Chief Technology Officer of GAC International, praised the real-world feedback gathered from these Philippine road trips. He noted that such owner experiences provide invaluable data to help refine electric vehicles for local road conditions.
