The Philippines is stepping boldly into the global innovation arena with PHILIPPiNEXT, a campaign led by the Department of Science and Technology – Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI). The initiative culminates in the first International Conference and Exposition on Innovations (ICE on I), taking place from July 14–17, 2025 at Okada Manila.

DOST-TAPI has long been at the forefront of transforming Filipino scientific breakthroughs into market-ready technologies. Under the leadership of Atty. Marion Ivy D. Decena, the Institute has become a vital force in strengthening intellectual property (IP) support, building global partnerships, and opening commercialization avenues for locally developed innovations.

One of the biggest milestones to date: the Philippines’ full membership in the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA)—a prestigious body that boosts international credibility and provides direct access to inventor networks, expos, and commercialization platforms.

From invention showcases to IP impact

DOST-TAPI’s SPICE program (Science and Technology Promotion for International Contest and Exhibits) is delivering results. In less than two years, Filipino inventors have garnered awards across key global expos, with inventions focused on sustainability, disaster response, and smart technologies.

Highlights include:

  • CES 2025 (USA): Showcased Philippine digital and consumer tech to 150+ countries.

  • Geneva International Invention Exhibition (2024 & 2025): Filipino teams brought home Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards.

  • Seoul International Invention Fair 2024: PH innovations earned multiple medals among 500+ global entries.

  • KIWIE 2024 (Korea): Women-led technologies in agriculture and clean water won major accolades.

  • WorldInvent Singapore 2024: PH tech solutions triumphed in environmental and EV categories.

These recognitions signal a rising regional force in innovation—Filipino solutions are solving global problems and gaining market traction.

ICE on I: a platform for global IP collaboration

The ICE on I 2025 is a landmark event not only for the Philippines but for Southeast Asia’s innovation community. Hosted in collaboration with the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) of the United Nations ESCAP, it will bring together inventors, investors, policymakers, IP offices, and tech developers from around the world.

The focus is sharp: IP commercialization, tech transfer, innovation-to-market pathways, and regional co-development.

With the country’s dynamic economy, young population, and strong innovation ecosystem, the Philippines is poised to become a global hub for IP-based growth.

PHILIPPiNEXT isn’t just a campaign—it’s a national call to innovate, commercialize, and connect Filipino technologies with the world.
