Gibson Unveils World-First Preview of Clapton’s Dream Guitar
Gibson is giving guitar fans a first look at one of its most anticipated releases yet. The brand will unveil a world-first preview of the upcoming Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom Eric Clapton 1964 ES-335 TDC Reissue at this year’s Crossroads Guitar Festival.
The reveal takes place September 26 and 27, 2026, when the festival returns to the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. Gibson has partnered with the event, founded by Eric Clapton, for its highly anticipated comeback in the Lone Star State.
Clapton’s Iconic ES-335 Gets a Historic Spotlight
The new model draws direct inspiration from Clapton’s original 1964 Gibson ES-335, a guitar tied to some of the most iconic moments of his career. The reissue, slated for release in summer 2027, celebrates one of rock’s most recognizable instruments.
Fans attending the festival will get an early, hands-on look before the guitar hits the market. They’ll also be able to enter for a chance to win one of the Eric Clapton signature models once it officially launches in 2027.
The original guitar itself won’t be far away, either. Guitar Center, the festival’s exclusive retail partner, will showcase the actual 1964 Gibson ES-335 Clapton played during his time with the band Cream.
That instrument comes from Guitar Center’s renowned Legends Collection and will anchor The Guitar Center Experience, an immersive fan destination inside the venue. The display lets attendees see the guitar that inspired the new signature reissue up close.
Guitar Center will also offer curated, festival-exclusive retail on-site throughout the weekend. The retailer plans to induct an artist into its famed RockWalk during the event, though the honoree has not yet been announced.
Crossroads Guitar Festival Returns With Star-Studded Lineup
Beyond the guitar reveal, the two-day event brings together a stacked lineup led by Clapton, alongside Gary Clark Jr., Buddy Guy, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Trey Anastasio and Joe Bonamassa. Tickets are available now at crossroadsguitarfestival.com.
Gibson signature artists rounding out the roster include Bonamassa, Clark Jr., Billy Gibbons, Sierra Hull, Marcus King and Keb’ Mo’. The lineup spans multiple generations and musical styles, reflecting the festival’s broad appeal.
Gibson will maintain a festival booth all weekend, giving fans hands-on access to more than 30 Gibson and Epiphone instruments, as well as MESA/Boogie amplifiers. Attendees can plug in and play the gear firsthand.
The booth will also feature the Gibson Guitar Throne, a striking installation built from 100 real electric guitar bodies and necks. Fans can pose for photos atop the throne for a chance to be featured on Gibson’s social media channels.
This year’s event marks the seventh Crossroads Guitar Festival and the 28th anniversary of Crossroads Centre Antigua. The treatment and education facility, founded in 1998, supports people affected by alcohol and substance dependency, along with their families.
Through Gibson Gives, the company’s philanthropic arm, Gibson continues its support of Crossroads Centre Antigua’s mission. The partnership underscores the festival’s deeper purpose: using music to aid healing and strengthen communities.
