Ronda Rousey Boards ‘9-1-1’ Season 3 as a Firefighter
WWE star Ronda Rousey has booked a recurring guest spot in the first responder drama series “9-1-1” on FOX. The actress will play a fearless firefighter who will be popping into the Los Angeles emergency station.
Per Deadline, Rousey’s character is named Lena Bosko and while this will be her first network TV role, the sports star has had a number of movie and TV credits to her name. She was in the HBO drama “Entourage” and the movies “Fast and Furious 7” and “The Expendable 3.”
The first woman to ever become the UFC bantamweight champion, Rousey is also an Olympic medalist for Judo. She is still under contract to perform at WWE’s “Monday Night Raw.”
It’s unclear how many “9-1-1” episodes will feature Rousey but the first responders will need her help when a tsunami hits the Santa Monica pier in the first episode back for season 3, as seen in the teaser.
“9-1-1” is created by Ryan Murphy and executive produced by Brad Falchuck and Tim Minear. The show stars Peter Krause, Angela Bassett, Oliver Stark, Kenneth Choi, Aisha Hinds, Rockmond Dunbarand Jennifer Love Hewitt. It debuted on FOX in January 2018 as a midseason replacement with 10 episodes and was an instant hit. The second season had nearly double the episodes with 18.
The hit series culls different scenarios from real-life emergency response teams. The show delivers heart-stopping scenarios which are both intense and inspiring.
At the heart of it, “9-1-1” also highlights the resilience of the human spirit. It gives a peek into the kind of relationships and struggles that first responders also deal with in their personal life while saving the lives of other people.
“911 redefined what a procedural series can be, consistently delivering edge-of-your-seat emergencies, mixed with emotional story arcs and incredible performances from one of the most powerful teams of actors on television,” FOX boss Michael Thorn said following the show’s renewal.
“9-1-1” season 3 is set to return on FOX on Monday, Sept. 23 at 8:00 p.m.
