PBA Finals: Terrence Jones fined, headbutt of Chris Ross a flagrant 2
The PBA has announced that it has fined TNT KaTropa import Terrence Jones 20,000 pesos for headbutting San Miguel point guard Chris Ross during the 1st quarter of their Game 3 encounter in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
The league also added that Jones’ headbutt of Ross, which at the time was warranted a flagrant foul penalty 1, has been upgraded to a penalty 2.
Jones headbutted Ross’ forehead in the 1st period during interval of play, when both teams were approaching their benches as a timeout was called.
Ross was given a technical foul for taunting during that sequence.
A penalty 2 should have led to an ejection for Jones, which could have changed the outcome of the particular match.
Instead, Jones left his imprint once again with a herculean 37-point, 18-rebound, 9-assist, 5-block performance to lead the KaTropa to a 115-105 win.
Ross voiced out his displeasure after the game, saying that headbutts have led to ejections before but he did not see it happening for Game 3.
“He came and headbutted me. I thought that was more than an F1,” said Ross. “They can call what they call, but mentally, he’s a baby. I thought I’ve seen people get ejected for headbutts. But I guess not today.”
Jones, on the other hand, deflected questions concerning the mind games or alleged dirty tactics being put up by the San Miguel Beermen and instead focused on the “basketball” side of things.
Beermen big man Christian Standhardinger, meanwhile, was also fined 5,000 pesos for the flagrant foul penalty 1 he committed against Jones in Game 3.
