AU, Sweeps LETRAN to Open 2026 V-League Collegiate Challenge
Arellano University Lady Chiefs opened its 2026 V-League Campaign on a strong note, sweeping NCAA reigning champions and counterpart Colegio de San Juan de Letran, 20-25, 25-22, 25-15, on Saturday, August 15th, at Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong.
The Lady Chiefs quickly established their presence in the match, taking the opening set, 25-20. In volleyball, winning the first set often provides a momentum boost, and Arellano capitalized on that advantage for the rest of the contest.
Letran kept the second frame competitive, but Arellano stayed composed in crucial moments to secure a 25-22 victory. The Lady Chiefs then dominated the third set, pulling away for a convincing 25-15 win to complete the straight-sets triumph.
Leading the way for Arellano was Cassey Leona Florida, who earned Player of the Game honors after delivering an all-around performance. Florida finished with 12 points built on 10 attacks and two blocks, while also contributing seven digs and five receptions.
Her efforts helped fuel the Lady Chiefs on both offense and defense, allowing them to maintain control throughout the match. Florida’s performance reflected the balanced play that Arellano displayed from the opening serve to the final point.
For Letran, the loss marked a challenging start to its V-League campaign. The Lady Knights managed to stay within reach during the first two sets but struggled to keep pace as Arellano found its rhythm in the final frame.
The match also served as another chapter between two familiar NCAA programs. This time, however, it was the Lady Chiefs who came away with a statement victory to begin their run in the 2026 V-League Collegiate Challenge.
With the opening-day sweep, Arellano gains an early confidence boost as it looks to build momentum in the tournament. The Lady Chiefs will aim to carry that strong start into their upcoming matches.
