World Wellness Weekend is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary from Sept. 18 to 20 with an unprecedented global reach, reinforcing the growing role of wellness in public health, tourism and community development. The annual event is expected to activate more than 15,000 venues across 187 countries, offering over 20,000 free wellness experiences to millions of participants.

What began as a grassroots initiative in France and Belgium has grown into one of the world’s largest wellness movements. The milestone edition underscores how wellness has shifted from a lifestyle trend into a global priority embraced by governments, businesses and local communities.

According to the World Wellness Report 2026, the global wellness economy has expanded from $4.5 trillion to a projected $7 trillion by the end of 2026. Organizers say the growth reflects increasing consumer demand for prevention, resilience and healthier lifestyles.

This year’s World Wellness Weekend is built around five pillars: vitality and movement, serenity and mindfulness, nutrition and immunity, sleep and creativity, and purpose and solidarity. Under the theme “Connect. Recharge. Wellness is Energy: Turn your Wellness ON!”, participating venues will host free fitness classes, mindfulness sessions, educational workshops, nature experiences and community activities.

Global wellness movement gains momentum

World Wellness Weekend 2026 will feature activities across every continent, highlighting the worldwide expansion of wellness initiatives.

Europe continues to receive strong institutional support through partnerships with the European Week of Sport and Italy’s Fondazione Sport City, while Spain is extending its celebrations with wellness festivals and public events beginning Sept. 17.

Japan plans to activate all 47 prefectures with more than 500 participating venues, blending traditional practices such as forest bathing with modern wellness programs. Indonesia will showcase regenerative wellness tourism in Bali, while India will combine luxury hospitality with traditional wellness experiences.

In the Americas, Argentina and Brazil are leading large-scale community participation, with hundreds of venues joining the campaign. The United States, Canada and Mexico are also expanding wellness access through public-private partnerships and fitness clubs.

Countries across the Middle East, Africa and Oceania are strengthening wellness tourism and community-based programs, reflecting the event’s growing international footprint.

Wellness expands beyond luxury

Organizers say World Wellness Weekend continues to promote the idea that wellness should be accessible to everyone rather than reserved for exclusive resorts or premium services.

Cities including Marbella, Madrid, Barcelona, Tigre and Higashikawa are integrating wellness into public spaces, schools, cultural institutions and municipal health initiatives. These efforts support the broader concept of “Wellness Cities,” where urban environments encourage physical activity, mental wellbeing and stronger community connections.

The event is supported by global partnerships with organizations including Wellness in Travel & Tourism, the Wellness Tourism Association, World Cleanup Day, the European Week of Sport and numerous hospitality and wellness groups. Major hotel brands, spas and fitness operators are also opening their facilities alongside schools, hospitals, parks and community centers to provide free activities.

Founder Jean-Guy de Gabriac said the movement is entering its second decade with a broader mission of integrating wellness into public policy, education, workplaces and tourism.

“Wellness is not a luxury, but a collective responsibility. We need to think Global, act Local and make wellness Social,” de Gabriac said.

To commemorate its 10th anniversary, World Wellness Weekend is also releasing a new Wellness Report developed with CCIcomms, highlighting the initiative’s global impact over the past decade and its vision for making wellness more inclusive in the years ahead.
