STARGLOW is taking a dramatic turn with the release of its latest music video, “Good Boys Anthem,” introducing a darker and more cinematic side to the rising Japanese group.

The five-member dance and vocal act formed through BMSG’s audition project THE LAST PIECE unveiled what is being described as its first full-scale action music video. The production blends emotionally driven storytelling, intense visuals, and themes centered on youth, frustration, and fractured friendships.

Unlike the group’s earlier releases, “Good Boys Anthem” leans heavily into a grittier atmosphere. Rain-soaked fight scenes, emotional confrontations, and nostalgic flashbacks dominate the visual narrative, showcasing a major evolution in STARGLOW’s creative direction.

Chart momentum continues

The release arrives at a time when STARGLOW continues gaining momentum both in Japan and overseas. The group’s debut single, “Star Wish,” previously topped the Oricon Weekly Single Ranking and climbed to No. 3 on the Billboard JAPAN Hot 100.

Its follow-up release, “USOTSUKI,” continued that momentum after reaching No. 1 on the Oricon Weekly Digital Single Ranking and No. 2 on the Billboard JAPAN Hot 100. Those achievements quickly established STARGLOW as one of the emerging names to watch in Japan’s music industry.

Recognition has also followed beyond chart rankings. STARGLOW earned nominations for Best New Artist and Radio Special Award: Radio Rising Artist of the Year at MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026.

Internationally, music publication NME also included STARGLOW as the only Japanese act featured in its “100 Essential Emerging Artists for 2026” list. The recognition further expanded the group’s growing profile outside Japan.

Darker themes emerge

Musically, “Good Boys Anthem” shifts toward a heavier sound anchored by distorted guitars and shoegaze-inspired production. The track explores emotional uncertainty, vulnerability, and the struggles young people face while trying to maintain pride and connection.

Members TAIKI and GOICHI participated in writing the lyrics, giving the song a more personal and emotionally grounded tone. Their contributions helped shape the track’s themes surrounding weakness, resilience, and reconciliation.

The music video itself was directed by filmmaker Hiroshi Shinagawa, who framed the project as a coming-of-age drama built around conflict and emotional healing. The storyline follows five friends whose relationships deteriorate under the pressures of adulthood before eventually reconnecting.

The production also marks STARGLOW’s first large-scale action performance project, combining choreographed combat scenes with emotional storytelling to reinforce the song’s message of perseverance despite personal struggles.

The group is not slowing down after the release. STARGLOW is scheduled to launch its third single, “Drivin’ My Life,” on July 22, which will include “Good Boys Anthem” as part of the release package.

Meanwhile, the group’s first LIVE DVD and Blu-ray release, “STARGLOW DEBUT SHOWCASE ‘Wish upon a star,’” is set for release on July 29.

STARGLOW will also continue expanding its live presence through additional arena performances for its ongoing “STARGLOW 1st Fan Meeting -STAR CRUISE-” tour. Upcoming special shows are scheduled at Yokohama Arena on August 1 and 2 before the group heads to GLION ARENA KOBE for performances on August 8 and 9.
